Eric Fernando of Michigan is having a simply magical season. Eric's season began in March at Powerman Alabama, saw him nail a coveted IMQ spot at Eagleman in June, and then proceeded to see him tear up the short course scene in Michigan where last weekend Eric won the 5th of 5 Lifetime tri events, and thus earning life-time complimentary entry to these events. What is all the more interesting is that Eric is training for Hawaii which is just around the corner. Burned out? Hardly as made evident by last weekend's fastest bike split. On track for Hawaii? Absolutely. Eric's schedule certainly will not be notable in terms of volume, but whereas our focus is on hitting key workouts and arriving at those days with legs that are ready and willing, all is in order. With the local tri-scene now behind him, several weeks of IM focus training will nicely complement the race training and send Eric to Kona riding a training high as opposed to a thank god this thing is finally here. The training principle that describes Eric's buildup can be reviewed in my article, Training Backwards, the Pyramid Turned Upside-down.
