Ironman Idaho saw several M2 Indoor Cyclists in action the previous weekend. Apparently, the debut of this race brought very hot conditions, but our "Bikram Biking" at Gorilla provided excellent preparation, both in terms of the heat and the general training. Michelle Deasy finished 4th overall female. Super job! Dave Hendsch reports on his race: "Well, I rarely write race reports, and this is no exception, however I must give respect to the Gorilla workouts. Cycling in the sweat box conditions of gorilla’s facility, coupled with maintaining a specific heart rate was an unrealized blessing at IM. The conditions at Coeur D Alene on the bike portion were “hot”, with temperatures hitting 97 degrees by mile 80 on the bike. Many analogized it to a hair dryer effect, blowing directly at you. After finishing the bike depleted, and experiencing my first ever bout of leg cramps, I attacked the run course at pedestrian speed. I was beat, but little did I realize, I was not the only one suffering. The day after the race, I discovered that IMCDA, had the rare distinction of producing the highest DNF rate of any previous IM with just under 15% of the field dropping out. As I look back, I would have done many things differently, particularly in my swim and run training however I am happy with my 12th place finish for my age division, and it was exclusively the bike that got me there." Elizabeth Irvin from Thursday spin comments: "I felt very well-prepared and strong on the bike...the trainer workouts made all the difference! My biking has drastically improved this season. I wish my run had been stonger, but considering the lack of running over the past five weeks, I am just happy I was able to do the 26 miles. The question everyone asks seems to be if I will do another one..... definitely! I learned a lot at CDA and think I have lots of room for improvement....maybe at Canada next year."
