M2 Athletes at Ironman New Zealand

M2 Athletes at Ironman New Zealand

Dark and chilly winter months have not deterred a motivated group of
M2 athletes from traveling to New Zealand to do battle at the oldest
of international Ironman events.

Keep an eye on Mary Uhl from Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mary delivered a
strong 3rd place overall finish at last year's Ironman Canada,
finishing with a strong run performance. We think that Mary is poised
to be a significant factor in this weekend's race.

Mary's partner Mike Schneider is also racing and coming off of a very
positive buildup.

Ralph Pickett, now my neighbor here in Mill Valley, is returning to
IM competition after a several year hiatus, along with his partner in
arms Monique Petrov.

M2 is especially curious to see if Ralph and Monique break the 1hr
barrier in the swim portion. Both of them are strong pool swimmers
not shy about critiquing the Master's not so pretty swim stroke, but
one which performs very consistently in th 50-53' range. When points
are given for form, M2 will fix, but for the time being Ralphie and
Monique better focus on the only measuring stick, time! Sub-1hr swims
guys or M2 has a lot of ribbing material to continue with.

Kyle Welch from Palo Alto is looking lean and mean according to my
South Bay sources. Certainly his training has progressed to indicate
a strong performance is in the offing.

Go get'em!

M2 Athletes are Everywhere
It might be November, but I continue to receive race reports from all
over the world, quite literally.

Last weekend saw M2ers competing in ITU Worlds in Cancun, Ironman
Florida, and in the Gay Games in Australia. How's that for spanning
the globe?

M2 coached athletes donned racing gear in nearly every IM event in
2002; New Zealand, Australia, Lake Placid, Utah, Canada, Austria,
Roth, France, Florida, Switzerland, and no less than 10 athletes
made the trip to Kona to race Ironman.

The language of EA/PS/ST/etc. is currently spoken in venues as
disparate as Calgary, Australia, South Africa, Vermont, New Mexico,
Hong Kong, Iowa, Michigan, England, along with another dozen or so
states.

Look for exciting new race uniforms and training gear to help reveal
yourselves in 2003 racing and training events.

Super Gina Fights to an 11th Place Overall
Gina Kehr battled high seas, record humidity, and a stacked female
professional field to finish 11th place overall in Hawaii.

While Gina had hoped to improve upon her previous year's 8th place,
she fought hard throughout and can take some very deserved
satisfaction in being able to lay claim to having led the entire
female race field. A very strong swim, a quick transition (she has
to teach me these)and Gina was the first female to ride through town.

Needless to say I was very proud and less than bashful in cheering on
'my girl' as she rode by! Fantastic stuff.
